Rachel Hi, my name is Rachel Dittrich! I am a current second year pharmacy student at Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy in Henderson, Nevada. I made this blog to document my journey through pharmacy school, alongside my Instagram Account (@racheld_pharmd). First, I wanted to share a little bit about me. Soon I will be writing posts, but I felt like it’s important for you to learn about who I am first.
1. Why Pharmacy?
Ever since I was little I was fascinated with pharmacists and why my family would pull up to this drive thru window to get medications. When I was a sophomore in high school my mom was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease called Stiff Person’s Syndrome (I know, it sounds made up, but Google it, it’s real). It was slowly taking away the strong woman I knew and turning her into someone who could barely walk or pick me up from school. With the help of her medications she was able to gain back a slight bit of normalcy and she was able to gain back the life she once knew. I wanted to help people, specifically people like my mom, who’s lives were changed by the help of medications.
2. What’s your goal?
My career goal in life is to become a pharmacist, but I’m not quite sure what type of pharmacist at this point. I have just finished my first year of pharmacy school, and after working in community retail pharmacy for over 5 years, I am realizing that there is more to pharmacy that what we traditionally think of! I am very interested in pursuing a residency and perhaps even specializing in a field post graduation. So far, pediatrics, women’s health, cardio, and infectious disease are just a few specializations that I find to be interesting, but I’m keeping my mind open in case anything else comes along and sparks my eye!
3. What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend of over five years and our cat, Lucy. I also enjoy decorating my planner (I use the Amplify Planner), watching YouTube videos (my favorite YouTuber is Rachel Southerd), reading books (I am currently reading Bridgerton), and playing video games (I love the Sims)!
